Attack of the Turks in 1476

Nicholas Zharkikh

Shortened text of the section. Full text in ukrainian version.

In the summer of 1476, Turks from the south and Tatars from the east attacked Moldavia. It was the first "joint enterprise" of Turkish and Tatar forces. The main theater of the war was Moldavia, but some Turkish troops also attacked Podillja, where they burned "cities and villages" not specifically named by Długosz (note in parentheses that Podillja at that time and long later had only one city – Kamianets!). Voivode Stefan asked King Casimir as his suzerain to send 12,000 troops to help him and promised to expel the attackers [Jana Długosza Roczniki…, – 396].
