The first church on this site was built somewhere in the 2nd quarter of 17 cent. And in 1740 just in a St.Clement's day in Russia was another coup, and the Empress Elizabeth was enthroned. In memory of this event a powerful ruler, Chancellor A.P.Bestuzhev-Ryumin decided to rebuild the old church, and in its place rose a new building in the style of European Baroque.
