This church, as St. Clement church, owes its reconstruction of the Russian lord – Prince G.A.Potjomkin of Tauride. He initiated in 1790 construction of new church, which was finished in 1848, 57 years after his death. This building in Empire style, indicative of the Moscow Architecture of 1 quarter 19 cent.

Please be aware that this church is associated with the life of famous poet Alexander Pushkin: in it he took in 1831 marriage to N. Goncharova. This saved the church during the criminal communist rule (bell tower was demolished only).
