Zabila in July 1855 joined the militia (probably on the officer's position). 27 July 1855 by accident, he broke his leg and was unable to actively serve.

Field-Marshal I. F. Paskevich in 1832 – 1856 was the governor of the Kingdom of Poland. Zabila met him tentatively in 1852, and Paskevich interested in his poetry.
