St.Sophia cathedral

The cathedral was built by Yaroslav the Wise in the 2 quarter 11 century. Lavishly decorated with mosaics and frescoes, it served as the residence of Metropolitan of Kiev and All Russia by long time. In 1634, the Metropolitan Peter Mogila established a monastery here, which stimulated the formation of baroque ensemble around the ancient cathedral.
