Oscillation of the adsorption of impurity ions as a possible cause of the transcendent values of low-frequency dielectric dispersion

Traditional theoretical models neglect the influence of impurity ions, generated a misconception about the presence of the limit value (Δεmax) the contribution of the dispersed phase Δε the dielectric constant of the suspension of non-conductive particles. The result was a dramatic discrepancy between theory and experiment, registered outrageous (above Δεmax) values of Δε. It is shown that Δε can be caused by oscillation of the adsorption of counterions and impurity of the quasi-equilibrium electric double layer. Low (but nonzero) concentration of impurities (eg, of H+ or OH-) is not an insurmountable obstacle to achieving transcendent Δε. The results showed that the synthesis of existing theoretical models for multi-ion case (non-binary) of the dispersion medium is one of the most urgent and practically important problems of the theory of low-frequency polarization of the double layer.
